The most exciting yet stressing time of your campus life is placements. A lot of efforts goes in preparing for campus interviews, and as it is a stepping stone for your career being vigilant definitely helps. In this article, I have discussed some significant points to work upon that will help you sail through the placement interviews.

One of the exciting yet the most pressurised time of your campus life is placements. With placements comes an emotional turmoil amongst students about whether they would land a job in the desired company & whether the company would shortlist them or not. Don’t worry, because good things take time, so all you have to do is be patient and work hard.

Ideally, it makes sense to choose a graduate college that prepares you for placements from the start. The college should conduct sessions with industry experts & training for resume writing, mock group discussions & interviews. Thus, do keep in mind to check on the placement training the college you are planning to choose offers.

Your small efforts today are going to get you success in the longer run. In my view, investing your time and preparing for the interview will surely help you ace it. But students might be confused about what to prepare and how to prepare. So here I am helping you with the right path for getting through the placement process.

  • Self-evaluation
  • Build your resume
  • Research well about the company
  • Clear screenings
  • Sail through the interview

Self-evaluation

Try to figure out what do you want. Look into every aspect of your life and identify your strengths and weaknesses. Gather your accomplishments and make a note of your hobbies, interests and your passion. Do not follow what others are doing, look into yourself and see what kind of work you think will bring you happiness.

It is your strength and expertise in areas that will help achieve success in the industry. So, shortlist the industry that you want to work in and apply in companies accordingly. Apply for the roles that go in alignment with your area of interest. Check that the job role is offering you good work learning and lifestyle.

Build your resume

Give lots and lots of time to build your resume. Many companies’ shortlist potential candidates for the first round based on their resumes, and, I am sure you do not wish to get rejected on the first screening step itself. Follow the college resume format if given or select a decent resume template online. Resumes will help you get shortlisted for your role, so invest time in making it efficiently.

Let your credentials speak for you. Write all your academic & extracurricular achievements precisely in your resume. Try doing small internships related to the industry you wish to go in. All these will give you an edge and help stand apart from your peers. Getting feedback from experienced personnel, checking for any errors & making changes to your resume, again and again, will definitely help you.

Research well about the company

Learn about the company; make sure you go through their website, current news, updates and social media accounts. Employers expect from the candidates that they have researched about the company. Not knowing what the company is about will indicate that you are not serious about the job you have applied for.

Also, look at the selection process of the company. Check the process in terms of test, group discussions, interviews, and statement of purpose etc. that students will require going through. It will help you save time and work in a smart way.

Clear screenings

Practice. Practice. Practice!

Companies would conduct multiple rounds before selecting the right candidate. If there are any tests, prepare and practice well for it. Go through mock skill assessments on the same area and learn from the mistakes you make. Try out practicing past papers and tests if available.

When you have to sit for group discussions, practice it alongside your friends and get feedback for yourself. It will help you become more confident and develop a thought process and strong viewpoints. For group discussions, as well as interviews, you need to improve your communication skills. It the most crucial thing when you prepare for campus placements.

Sail through the interview

Your interview performance will help you land the job, so make sure you prepare for the interview in the best manner. Make a note of all the important questions from the internet or your seniors placed in the same company. Practice answering the questions when alone and observe your communication skills and body language. You can also ask some experienced family members or friends to conduct mock interviews for you and take their feedback and make necessary changes.

So these were the things that you should consider when preparing for the placements. I think you should definitely go for a college that provides you with various sessions & training for campus placements. All the best.
